Triple Score Today

So much fun in Valley Forge today.  First I came across the hummingbird moth on the purple bee baum.  Click on each one for more fun.

Then came the monarchs in love.  And finally the baby bluebird looking up.

The Curious Indigo and the Teenage Praying Mantis

Yesterday I spent a long time at Pawling Farm in Valley Forge.  Much of that time was photographing the very cooperative and quite curious Indigo Bunting.  And then walking down the regular path was this beautiful teenage Praying Mantis sitting at the top of a plant looking straight at me.  She stayed long enough for a great pose.  Hope you like.

Our Baby Praying Mantis

This little beauty was born in a pot of flowers at the front of our driveway about six weeks ago.  We recently put in a new garden and relocated that pot of flowers to  the front porch.  Unless this is another baby altogether, I think she jumped out of the pot and is now happily making her way in the new garden.  She has been hiding out in a hydrangea plant for the last few days and posed for this picture this afternoon. Click to see how beautiful she is.

All in a Day's Work

I was hiding in the woods trying to lure a little oven bird into the viewfinder of my big lens when all of a sudden this funky looking long legged Stilt Fly landed on my lens.  Luckily I had my macro with me and got a photo of the fly (Micropezidae).  Click on the photo and take a good look at those white tap shoes that he kept tapping and that big red eye.  And to top it off, the oven bird posed just about the same time!
